(This is my recap of the story as I remember what was passed on to me. I am awaiting an official version from someone who very actively participated in the struggle.)

Pearl River County was the first area in Mississipi where SmartGrowth got on our radar. Patriot / tea party members learned that county planners had something in the works that could affect their property rights, especially in the rural areas of the county, and they started showing up at Supervisor meetings.

Once the plans were uncovered, there was a huge public outcry and the county supervisors gave in to pressure and put SmartGrowth on the shelf, but today, still deny that there is anything wrong with the plan and seem to think anyone who believes such ideas is a little crazy / paranoid.

Until they can truly understand the dangers of SmartGrowth's origins, who's financing it, what it's goals are and the effect it has had on private citizens and businesses since it was introduced, it will remain a threat.
